WASHINGTON—Vice President Joe Biden and Attorney General Eric Holder presented 22 public servants with the Public Safety Officer Medal of Valor Wednesday.

The honorees include an FBI team, which participated in a 2013 Alabama kidnapping rescue mission. The agents saved a child, kidnapped from a school bus, after the little boy was held hostage underground for six days.

Another awardee, Deputy Jenna Underwood-Nunez of the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s department, dove into a lake and saved a drowning teen. The off-duty deputy was five months pregnant at the time.

The medal has been presented by the White House since 2003. Wednesday’s ceremony took place later at the Eisenhower Executive Office Building.
