WASHINGTON — Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis created controversy last month when the Florida Department of Education threatened to reject AP African American studies. DeSantis was criticized for the move and accused of pursuing it to further his political agenda.
He defended the decision and said the course led a “woke” agenda by teaching Queer Theory. In response, democratic legislators held their own press conference outside of the U.S. Capitol and promised to ensure the protection of black history education throughout America.
