WASHINGTON – President Biden called for unity in the continued fight for social justice at the National Action Network’s annual Martin Luther King Jr. Day breakfast on Monday.

“The path is clear. To go forward, we need to do it together,” said Biden, who spoke at the event for the third time.

While Biden, Rev. Al Shartpon and others honored King through their remarks, Monday was also a National Day of Service. Students and faculty at Episcopal High School in Alexandria, Virginia, packaged over 4,000 food boxes for food-insecure households in the area.

“It’s not a day off, it’s a day on. This is how we affect change and this is how we give people hope” said Kesha Abdul-Mateen, the U.S. Regional Program Coordinator for Islamic Relief USA – one of the organizations that coordinated the event at the high school.
